Tile Installation Photo Journey – Oceanside Glasstile Selected for Modernism Week Christopher Kennedy Compound #VillaGolightly Pool and Spa

Transport yourself to a decadent mid century modern home with photos of this year’s Christopher Kennedy Compound at Villa Golightly. Deemed the “#1 Must See Event of Modernism Week” by the Hollywood Reporter, Villa Golightly featured over 20 of the world’s best designers and luxury home brands, including Oceanside Glasstile. This Modernism Week show house featured tours and special events February 16th through February 27th, 2017.

When Christopher Kennedy and Kelly Golightly approached Oceanside Glasstile to supply tile for their mid century modern show house pool and spa we were thrilled! Both designers are known for creating classy, timeless spaces and events that incorporate the glamorous lifestyles and old school charm of Palm Springs desert living.

Christopher Kennedy Compound Pool Before and After

For the pool waterline and the hot tub tile, the team selected a Muse Collection, 7/8″ x 7/8″ Straight Set Pattern in an Aqua color tri-finish blend. A tri-finish blend combines mosaic glass tiles in each of our three finishes: iridescent, non-iridescent and matte. In honor of the event, Oceanside Glasstile named this pool tile blend “Aqua Golightly.” (If you have never seen Oceanside Glasstile finish options in person, order a sample to see the difference of how each finish shines!)

This Tile Board gif shows off the iridescent shine of the Aqua Golightly glass tile blend chosen for the Christopher Kennedy Compound Pool and Spa

The final, beautiful waterline glass tile pool and fully tiled spa could not have been completed without the hard work and dedication of our event partners: Tile installation completed by Desert Glass Pools, tile sealer and maintenance products provided by natural Oceancare Products and the tile is available for purchase at our event partner showroom Stone Revolution. For more information about glass tile for water applications and mid century modern design tile inspiration, send an email to modernismweek@glasstile.com. Scroll down to see a photos of the pool and spa tile installation journey.

Oceanside Glasstile 2016 Year in Review: New Products, Acquisitions and Philanthropy

2016 was a game changer for the art glass and glass tile industries. In addition to five amazing product releases, Oceanside Glasstile completed asset acquisitions of two art glass companies that had closed their doors. By acquiring the equipment, product formulas and knowledge of how to produce art glass we all get to see the art glass industry live on and flourish. In addition to product and company growth, the Oceanside Glasstile team was excited to serve our community as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers cycling and volunteer team at Padres Pedal the Cause. Scroll down to read more about the exciting 2016 Oceanside Glasstile milestones.

2016 Year in Review (10).png

5 Product Releases

Every year we look forward to dazzling designers, architects, builders and installers with new products. We spend months, sometimes years, perfecting the right design and product quality for each release. Here are the products we introduced to the market in 2016.

1. The Kinship Collection in partnership with Island Stone

Anchored in beach culture and driven by a passion to create unique, beautiful designs, Island Stone and Oceanside Glasstile paired the best of their offerings to create a stunning combination of premium stone and jewel-like glass. The collection uses four of Island Stone’s natural products: grey sandstone, mint sandstone, silver quartzite and white marble in combination with complimenting glass tiles. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

2. Three Antique Mirror Colors for the Devotion Collection: Helios, Astral and Nocturne

The Devotion Collection is no stranger to bold color, glittering movement and intricate details. On crafting the collection, Oceanside Glasstile Designer Cathy Aroz comments “I really love working with the antique mirrors. Each color shines its own personality into the design. Some patterns need just a touch of mirror to bring a little fire to the project while others can go bolder and bigger, creating an element of drama that will literally take your breath away.” To complement the existing pallets, Cathy added Nocturne, Helios and Astral for truly creative and courageous designers. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

3. Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection

Creatively adapted from the shape of sea scapes and seashells, Oceanside Glasstile released the Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection to expand design options for art glass lovers. This fun pattern allows one to highlight traditional Devotion Collection colors with a border of intriguing color or reflection. Use our Blend Tool to blend your own colors into this fabulous pattern. Request a sample of your favorite Pattern and Color combination here.

4. Three glass tile colors plus three blends for the Muse, Tessera, Facets, Casa California and Elevations Collections: Nalu, Kai and Koa plus Puna, Kalani and Mauna

Created with the intention of expanding our glass color palette to facilitate the creation of seamless gradients, these three new colors were also used to create three new blends. Inspired by the calm Hawaiian shores, each color and blend name reflects the beauty of Hawaii’s natural elements that can be transported into any design project for a calming, nature driven effect. Read about the origin behind the names here. Craft your own tile pattern and color combination on our Blend Tool, then request a sample of it here.

5. Repose Pattern created for Muse and Tessera Collections

Oceanside Glasstile thoughtfully crafted the Repose Pattern as a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Architecture movement. Simply stunning, this pattern has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t. The Repose Pattern can be adapted into a liner or combined with iridescent colors to create brilliant hues that radiate a humble beauty. Read more about this versatile pattern and see inspiration photos here. Create your own Repose Pattern color combination on our Blend Tool and then request a sample of your creation with our Sample Request Form.

2 Art Glass Acquisitions

In 2016 two art glass manufacturing companies decided to close their doors: Spectrum Art Glass and Uroboros. As an art glass customer, Oceanside Glasstile wondered how we would be able to continue our Devotion Collection without the beautiful glass produced by these companies. In a serendipitous turn of events, Oceanside Glasstile was able to purchase the assets of these companies to carry on their legacy as the new manufacturer and supplier of the same high quality glass that artists need to craft stunning art pieces. Read our art glass manufacturing updates here.

$41,153.11 Raised for Cancer Research

Each year the Oceanside Glasstile staff participates in the Padres Pedal the Cause cycling fundraiser as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers to raise funds for cancer research in San Diego. 100% of the Oceanside Glasstile staff participated as volunteers or cyclists and 100% of the money we raised went directly to cancer research programs. In 2016 we rode for Myer and the Super Boy Crew. Thank you to David Fatula, our Technical Services Manager for leading our team and organizing this amazing effort. Want to help us raise more money for cancer research in 2017? Send an email to techservices@glasstile.com and we will add you to our notification email that will be sent in the fall prior to the event.

Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to look through our 2016 milestones. All of this would not have been possible without you. We look forward to a bright 2017!

7 Stunning Steamy Spas in Snowy Wonderlands

Watching a small, delicate, personal cloud form in front of your lips from a cold weather exhale is enchanting, but long winter nights can tempt one to dream of warmer days. Merge your favorite ski bunny tendencies with hot memories by enveloping yourself in one of these seven steamy spas at luxury resorts, onsens and chalets around the world.

Transport yourself mentally, or physically, to one of these top global geothermal getaways while daydreaming of how to transform your own sanctuary into a relaxing water sanctuary.

 1. Septième Ciel, Verbier, Switzerland

septieme

Translated from French to “Seventh Heaven”, Septieme Ciel presents guests with an ethereal escape from the ordinary for an intimate group. This exclusive chalet only sleeps 12 and offers guests a hot tub with one of the world’s most breathtaking views. Imagine hitting the slopes all day then arriving home to this view from this hot tub. Reservations available here through Luxury Ski Chalets.

Pool tile inspiration: This is a wood-heavy retreat with a classic round hot tub adorned with a white and blue water line. Recreate this look by using a unique pattern with a classic blue like Sapphire or use a blend like Crystals or Indigo to evoke the beauty of a snowy skyline. Also, ask your landscape architect or pool builder to slope the edges of the hot tub and wrap the edge with tile instead of truncating it with coping; this will create a relaxing recline and smooth edge around the spa. Explore more tile colors and blends for water applications here.

The Newest Blue of all the Hues – YInMn

There is a brand new shade of blue that was just stumbled upon through a chemis-tastrophe and it’s absolutely BLUE-tiful! Scientists discovered the color accidentally mixing Yttrium, Indium and Manganese together at 2000 degree F.

new-blue-YInMn-sparks-creative-color-application-with-glass-tile

They’ve dubbed the color YInMn Blue. What makes it so cool? Besides the fact that it’s blue . . . The pigment’s crystal structure keeps it from fading, even when exposed to oil or water. Now it’s being used in sketches, paintings and it’s even being considered for rooftops as a solution to keep buildings cooler.

So to throw it up to the scientist of the YInMn creation, we celebrate the beauty of blue in all of its tiled glory.

Stunning Neutrals and Modern Tile Sizes Create a New Sense of Sophistication

Oceanside Glasstile is flirting with sophistication for their Fall Launch 2014. After releasing a trio of brilliant blues to the market this past summer a call to the softer side was made – sophisticated neutrals are the newest addition to their extensive color palette. Echoing the sentiment of this year’s Fashion Week Oceanside Glasstile hits the market with a fresh interpretation on a classic. The new 2×8 field, Intro and Outro pieces are the ultramodern subway tiles of any designer’s dreams, combining dynamic bevels with a beautiful brick shape.

Beautiful bevel paired with sultry opaques make for a timeless tile installation

Beautiful beveled field paired with sultry opaques make for a stunning tile installation.

Through feedback from showrooms and design centers across the country, Oceanside Glasstile heard the demand for versatility and compatibility within their color palette. Merchandising Designer Cathy Aroz explains, “There was a call in the industry for a lighter color palette. These neutrals are timeless colors.” Timeless indeed, this palette of opals sets the perfect foundation for layering neutrals and accent colors.

Inspired by a rolling coastal fog, Dove provides a cool undertone while Silk brings out the warmth in the purest of marbles. Available in three finishes – Iridescent, Non-Iridescent and Matte – Dove and Silk offer a cool soft grey or warm creamy notes to any blend. Oceanside Glasstile’s Casa California collection updates a classic look with their new 2×8 field, Intro and Outro pieces. As Merchandising Designer, Cathy Aroz states, “The idea behind Intro and Outro was to embrace a clean, modern aesthetic that still connects to traditional styles. With Outro you get your classic bevel design, while Intro gives you that element of surprise with an innovative inner bevel.” The 2×8 flat field piece rounds out the collection’s offering of slimmer, longer subway tiles. All of the new pieces are available in Oceanside Glasstile’s full color palette.

Recycling is in the DNA of Oceanside Glasstile. Each year they melt more than 2 million pounds of post-consumer bottle glass. The result – a gem-like substance crafted into stunning glass tile. They continuously strive for improvements in energy efficiency, and maintain a closed loop manufacturing process where they re-melt all of their own glass trimmings. Manufacturing innovative products with a sustainable process is an important business value, but . . . that’s just where the fun begins. Encouraged by the leadership of the company, Oceanside Glasstile employees support all kinds of causes both near and far. Embracing social responsibility, they find joy in restoring orphanages, building schools, planting new trees and collaborating with the generation of tomorrow. Both home and commercial designs will get a dose of good vibes when they incorporate this environmentally-aware, socially-responsible product into their work-in-progress.

With the best materials in the world to select from, Alpentile specifies Oceanside Glasstile to bring their visionary designs to life. Their energy and passion for Oceanside Glasstile is unparalleled as champions of absolute quality.

“When we work in pools we are very careful only to choose products that will withstand the harsh environment – that’s one reason we love OGT for pools – we have confidence in the product performance and don’t have to compromise our design aesthetic.”

The ingenuity of Alpentile’s designs begins with  the materials they use. “For me, the product needs to be authentic. I like porcelain that looks like porcelain, stone that is stone, and glass that looks like glass – Handmade tile is most beautiful when you can see the imperfections of the process.”
