Bras for a Cause: Mosaic Chandelier Bra Supports Breast Cancer Resource Center

Have you ever seen a high fashion undergarment covered in antique crystals and hand cut, hand crafted glass tile?! Well now is your chance. Not only can you see this beautiful creation, but you also have the opportunity to bid on this Chandelier Bra after it is shown on the runway at this year’s Art Bra Austin to benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Center.

Here is a look at some of the highlights from last year’s Art Bra Austin:

Susan Ribnick is a volunteer, turned cancer survivor, turned mosaic artist in Austin Texas. A long time supporter of Art Bra Austin, this year her life experiences led her to partner with fellow breast cancer survivors, and artists, Dianne and Monica to create a shining fashion statement covered in glass tile mosaics from Oceanside Glasstile and antique crystals from Crystal Renaissance Fine Lighting! When we heard the idea, we were thrilled that our tile could be used for such a unique and positive purpose.

Susan’s story of volunteerism, cancer, triumph and creating her own Art Bra

Until last year, Art Bra Austin was something that I saw behind the scenes. My good friends, Dianne Sonnenberg, who is a professional mosaic artist, and Monica Meadows (both breast cancer survivors) have been making top notch art bras since 2010. Their collection of annual Art Bras is called the “Treasured Chest Series” and this year ours is “Treasured Chest VII – Lighting the Way” (nickname “Bijou”). It’s a big honor to work with them.

I attended Art Bra Austin for a number of years as a guest and volunteer. However, in a bizarre twist of fate I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and then the roles got flipped on me.

A very good childhood friend, Jan Apple of Minneapolis, offered to make a bra for ME to wear in the 2016 event! That is how this story really begins as I could not say no. I was a reluctant model but the piece she created, the Peter Max halter bra shown below made it in the top 5 bras submitted for the event and so I became a Live Auction Model! Peter’s halter bra I modeled sold for $4000 on the runway and was a remarkable piece of fashion (photos below).

I am an 18 month survivor and no one can participate as a model unless they have been diagnosed with breast cancer. That is why I am so new to this and now on the inside of the event. This year my health is much better and I decided that it was my turn as a mosaic artist to produce some cool bra. I teamed up with Monica and Dianne, and collectively we created the Chandelier Bra using Oceanside Glasstile and antique crystals from Crystal Renaissance Fine Lighting in Queens. I actually went out there and did a 3 day Chandelier workshop to learn all about crystal, pinning glass prisms and all that.

Of the bras submitted for the event, 60 are chosen by a jury, and only 5-6 become Live Auction items, so it is a big honor to have been selected, especially since I designed and worked on it from beginning to end. Lots of fun!

Tile Installation Photo Journey – Oceanside Glasstile Selected for Modernism Week Christopher Kennedy Compound #VillaGolightly Pool and Spa

Transport yourself to a decadent mid century modern home with photos of this year’s Christopher Kennedy Compound at Villa Golightly. Deemed the “#1 Must See Event of Modernism Week” by the Hollywood Reporter, Villa Golightly featured over 20 of the world’s best designers and luxury home brands, including Oceanside Glasstile. This Modernism Week show house featured tours and special events February 16th through February 27th, 2017.

When Christopher Kennedy and Kelly Golightly approached Oceanside Glasstile to supply tile for their mid century modern show house pool and spa we were thrilled! Both designers are known for creating classy, timeless spaces and events that incorporate the glamorous lifestyles and old school charm of Palm Springs desert living.

Christopher Kennedy Compound Pool Before and After

For the pool waterline and the hot tub tile, the team selected a Muse Collection, 7/8″ x 7/8″ Straight Set Pattern in an Aqua color tri-finish blend. A tri-finish blend combines mosaic glass tiles in each of our three finishes: iridescent, non-iridescent and matte. In honor of the event, Oceanside Glasstile named this pool tile blend “Aqua Golightly.” (If you have never seen Oceanside Glasstile finish options in person, order a sample to see the difference of how each finish shines!)

The final, beautiful waterline glass tile pool and fully tiled spa could not have been completed without the hard work and dedication of our event partners: Tile installation completed by Desert Glass Pools, tile sealer and maintenance products provided by natural Oceancare Products and the tile is available for purchase at our event partner showroom Stone Revolution. For more information about glass tile for water applications and mid century modern design tile inspiration, send an email to modernismweek@glasstile.com. Scroll down to see a photos of the pool and spa tile installation journey.

7 Stunning Steamy Spas in Snowy Wonderlands

Watching a small, delicate, personal cloud form in front of your lips from a cold weather exhale is enchanting, but long winter nights can tempt one to dream of warmer days. Merge your favorite ski bunny tendencies with hot memories by enveloping yourself in one of these seven steamy spas at luxury resorts, onsens and chalets around the world.

Transport yourself mentally, or physically, to one of these top global geothermal getaways while daydreaming of how to transform your own sanctuary into a relaxing water sanctuary.

 1. Septième Ciel, Verbier, Switzerland

septieme

Translated from French to “Seventh Heaven”, Septieme Ciel presents guests with an ethereal escape from the ordinary for an intimate group. This exclusive chalet only sleeps 12 and offers guests a hot tub with one of the world’s most breathtaking views. Imagine hitting the slopes all day then arriving home to this view from this hot tub. Reservations available here through Luxury Ski Chalets.

Pool tile inspiration: This is a wood-heavy retreat with a classic round hot tub adorned with a white and blue water line. Recreate this look by using a unique pattern with a classic blue like Sapphire or use a blend like Crystals or Indigo to evoke the beauty of a snowy skyline. Also, ask your landscape architect or pool builder to slope the edges of the hot tub and wrap the edge with tile instead of truncating it with coping; this will create a relaxing recline and smooth edge around the spa. Explore more tile colors and blends for water applications here.

New Colors Bring Home Island Vibes

Enveloped in the warm ocean breeze, toes wiggling in the soft sand, gazing out over the waves to the horizon, the natural elements of Hawaii create a place of serenity. Standing on the shore the eye follows rolling jungle hills and clear skies onto warm sands and vibrant tropical waters. The newest colors and blends in the Oceanside Glasstile collection embody the serenity of Hawaii’s natural landscape and evoke a sense of peace and calm, transforming any space into a little piece of paradise.

“When creating the new colors we wanted to broaden the range of two complimentary spectrums, allowing for softer gradient transitions,” reflects Oceanside Glasstile Designer Cathy Aroz, “The three new colors are the result of playing with hues and shades of popular colors Clear, Bondi, and Truffle.” Looking at these three new additions together, Oceanside Glasstile’s creative team was reminded of the beauty and depths of a tropical paradise and wanted to pay tribute to the spirit of Hawaii by using Hawaiian names Nalu, Kai and Koa for the colors and Puna, Kalani and Mauna to describe three new blends created with these colors.

Nalu is Hawaiian for wave; one of Hawaii’s many seductions, these perfect curls, swirling hues of blue, create the ultimate inspiration for any ocean lover looking to add a piece of the sea to their space. In Hawaiian the word Kai means ocean. The depths and vastness of the sea remind us of the expanse of the world and bring a sense of perspective and calm to everyday life. Koa is a type of tree native to the Hawaiian islands. Its dark wood has been a popular material for centuries; used to build canoes and surfboards, Koa wood is a valuable, timeless resource symbolizing the importance of preserving natural resources so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

These colors were used with our existing palette to form three new color blends. Puna is Hawaiian for fresh water or spring, natural water welling up from the depths to refresh the body and soul. In Hawaiian Kalani signifies Heavens. This blend is sure to transport you to a tropical sanctuary – imagine feeling the expanse of the beautiful sky, its warm sultry breeze and a mind as calm as the lulling sea. The blend Mauna – meaning mountain, highlights the rich color of Koa. The blend of colors is inspired by the highest point in Hawai’i, Mauna Kea – the brilliance of the earth teamed with light kisses of snow and ice create a stunning balance of warms and cools that make the perfect backdrop for any space.

ogt_repose_vignette_006

Muse Collection, Interlude Gradient inspired by Mauna. Colors from top to bottom: Platinum Irid, Koa Irid, Truffle Irid

Each blend is a thoughtful culmination of some of Oceanside Glasstile’s most popular colors. Here are the colors and finishes featured in each new blend:

  • Puna: Infinite (Irid, Matte), Platinum (Irid), Nalu (Irid) and Kai (Irid)
  • Kalani: Bondi (Irid), Dove (Irid), Kai (Irid), Silverlight (Irid)
  • Mauna: Koa (Irid), Platinum (Irid), Truffle (Irid)

Nalu, Kai and Koa, Puna, Kalani and Mauna invite you to experience the tranquility of the islands in your own home. Whether used in a pool water line, along shower walls, in the kitchen, a powder room, or entry way, these colors and blends transform any space into a place of serenity and balance. Get Fresh in the New Year with Vibrant Green Hues Inspired by Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year

Burgeoning holiday cheer climaxes with anticipation of a new year, a fresh start and a renewed enthusiasm for life. No color is more appropriate to highlight this sentiment of aspirational growth like the snapping fresh color of natural green. It buds, it moves, it blossoms into nourishing food, protective shade, and living beauty. In 2017 we look forward to possibility and the benefits that abound from nurturing that which grows. To celebrate this symbolism, we highlight images that reflect the emotion featured in Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017 video for their new color Greenery.

“It’s very bold and I think it makes for a great accent color, either as a wall, an accessory, or better yet, as the name suggests, as some actual ‘greenery’. We have a large palette of colors with which to create the perfect backdrop; whether layered with additional color or as a neutral canvas that will highlight your ‘greenery’ of choice.” – Oceanside Glasstile Lead Designer, Cathy Aroz.

Click an image in the gallery below to read its description and learn more about who we are as a company and tickle your imagination with ideas for your next design project. From greenery adorned glass tile walls, to recycled glass, to Taylor’s awesome green hair, at Oceanside Glasstile we invite you to join us in welcoming the new year with open arms, an open mind and a renewed sense of optimism. Oceanside Glasstile’s Divine Intervention

ANTIQUE MIRROR FEATURES HEAVENLY ALLURE

Carlsbad, CA – August, 2016 – Oceanside Glasstile gets ethereal this summer with three additional Antique Mirror colors delivered straight from the heavens. With inspiration from the sun god himself to the depths of Neptune’s kingdom, Oceanside Glasstile applies otherworldly allure to their Devotion color palette. Additionally a new pattern is brought to Devotion’s fold taking inspiration from the salty seashore and translating it into stunning home décor. Prepare to get lost in the stars or swim for sunken treasure during your next design odyssey.

Devotion is no stranger to bold color, glittering movement or intricate details. When the question arose to add additional antique mirror options to the color palette, In-house Designer Cathy Aroz enthusiastically responded, “I really love working with the antique mirrors. Each color shines its own personality into the design. Some patterns need just a touch of mirror to bring a little fire to the project while others can go bolder and bigger creating an element of drama that will literally take your breath away.” The three new additions Helios, Astral and Nocturne are set to do just that.

Sirena

The Sirena pattern gets ethereal with the depth of the Nocturne mirror.

Devotion’s Cathedral pattern is seraphic with a touch of Astral.

Helios, named after the former Greek God of the sun, explodes with sunbursts and solar flares arcing across a field of bronze. While Astral, reminiscent of the moon’s reflection on the ocean’s surface takes the cooler side of the color palette with its sultry silver splashes set against ripples of navy blue. And last, but certainly not least, Nocturne, true to its name, evokes the majesty of a clear starry night sky. With options like a 6” x 12” micro-beveled field (available in Astral and Nocturne) or the flexibility of custom design with Devotion’s patterns, these new colors will have the trumpets sounding the glory that is your residential or commercial project.

‘She sells, sea shells’ is the summer mantra for the Devotion Collection as a new Scallop pattern is introduced to the family. “Scallop is a classic pattern which has seen a big resurgence in the design world,” Cathy Aroz explains. So it is only fitting that Oceanside Glasstile add this classic shape to their offering but not without it’s own modern twist. “Our art glass can have so much movement,” Cathy details, “I wanted to keep the lines simple with just a subtle layer to open up the possibility to play with color and depth.” This new pattern is the perfect opportunity to create a beautiful space with bold color selection and placement.
