Oceanside Glasstile 2016 Year in Review: New Products, Acquisitions and Philanthropy

2016 was a game changer for the art glass and glass tile industries. In addition to five amazing product releases, Oceanside Glasstile completed asset acquisitions of two art glass companies that had closed their doors. By acquiring the equipment, product formulas and knowledge of how to produce art glass we all get to see the art glass industry live on and flourish. In addition to product and company growth, the Oceanside Glasstile team was excited to serve our community as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers cycling and volunteer team at Padres Pedal the Cause. Scroll down to read more about the exciting 2016 Oceanside Glasstile milestones.

5 Product Releases

Every year we look forward to dazzling designers, architects, builders and installers with new products. We spend months, sometimes years, perfecting the right design and product quality for each release. Here are the products we introduced to the market in 2016.

1. The Kinship Collection in partnership with Island Stone

Anchored in beach culture and driven by a passion to create unique, beautiful designs, Island Stone and Oceanside Glasstile paired the best of their offerings to create a stunning combination of premium stone and jewel-like glass. The collection uses four of Island Stone’s natural products: grey sandstone, mint sandstone, silver quartzite and white marble in combination with complimenting glass tiles. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

2. Three Antique Mirror Colors for the Devotion Collection: Helios, Astral and Nocturne

The Devotion Collection is no stranger to bold color, glittering movement and intricate details. On crafting the collection, Oceanside Glasstile Designer Cathy Aroz comments “I really love working with the antique mirrors. Each color shines its own personality into the design. Some patterns need just a touch of mirror to bring a little fire to the project while others can go bolder and bigger, creating an element of drama that will literally take your breath away.” To complement the existing pallets, Cathy added Nocturne, Helios and Astral for truly creative and courageous designers. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

3. Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection

Creatively adapted from the shape of sea scapes and seashells, Oceanside Glasstile released the Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection to expand design options for art glass lovers. This fun pattern allows one to highlight traditional Devotion Collection colors with a border of intriguing color or reflection. Use our Blend Tool to blend your own colors into this fabulous pattern. Request a sample of your favorite Pattern and Color combination here.

4. Three glass tile colors plus three blends for the Muse, Tessera, Facets, Casa California and Elevations Collections: Nalu, Kai and Koa plus Puna, Kalani and Mauna

Created with the intention of expanding our glass color palette to facilitate the creation of seamless gradients, these three new colors were also used to create three new blends. Inspired by the calm Hawaiian shores, each color and blend name reflects the beauty of Hawaii’s natural elements that can be transported into any design project for a calming, nature driven effect. Read about the origin behind the names here. Craft your own tile pattern and color combination on our Blend Tool, then request a sample of it here.

5. Repose Pattern created for Muse and Tessera Collections

Oceanside Glasstile thoughtfully crafted the Repose Pattern as a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Architecture movement. Simply stunning, this pattern has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t. The Repose Pattern can be adapted into a liner or combined with iridescent colors to create brilliant hues that radiate a humble beauty. Read more about this versatile pattern and see inspiration photos here. Create your own Repose Pattern color combination on our Blend Tool and then request a sample of your creation with our Sample Request Form.

2 Art Glass Acquisitions

In 2016 two art glass manufacturing companies decided to close their doors: Spectrum Art Glass and Uroboros. As an art glass customer, Oceanside Glasstile wondered how we would be able to continue our Devotion Collection without the beautiful glass produced by these companies. In a serendipitous turn of events, Oceanside Glasstile was able to purchase the assets of these companies to carry on their legacy as the new manufacturer and supplier of the same high quality glass that artists need to craft stunning art pieces. Read our art glass manufacturing updates here.

$41,153.11 Raised for Cancer Research

Each year the Oceanside Glasstile staff participates in the Padres Pedal the Cause cycling fundraiser as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers to raise funds for cancer research in San Diego. 100% of the Oceanside Glasstile staff participated as volunteers or cyclists and 100% of the money we raised went directly to cancer research programs. In 2016 we rode for Myer and the Super Boy Crew. Thank you to David Fatula, our Technical Services Manager for leading our team and organizing this amazing effort. Want to help us raise more money for cancer research in 2017? Send an email to techservices@glasstile.com and we will add you to our notification email that will be sent in the fall prior to the event.

Your new go-to cleaner – safe enough for the kitchen, tough enough for the garage

You’ve just seen the last of your relatives off to the airport, you plop down on the couch, kick up your feet and take a look around only to realize your home is a disaster.

How could this have happened?

Maybe it was the Christmas Party with 15 of your closest friends and family. Or the New Years Eve bash with your old college roommates.

Is that a merlot stain? How do I get red wine out again?!

You’re about to dig your bucket of cleaners out from the garage when you remember the gift your eco-conscious Aunt gave you and head for the kitchen instead.

Hmmm… All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser. I guess I’ll give it a shot…

all-purpose-cleaner-degreaser-6

A few dirty rags later, you sit down and take a look around your now spotless home.

Those dried cake batter splatters your nephew made on the cupboard? Clean.

The pasta sauce explosion in the microwave? Spotless.

Soap scum all over the guest bathroom? Non-existent.

All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser even took care of those mystery spots on the carpet. You reflect, in awe that one bottle was able to go from the kitchen to the bathroom to your living room without skipping a beat.

And with enough time to binge watch my DVR.

order-a-sample-2

Where can I use it?

Everywhere. Like literally anywhere you need to clean. Kitchen, bathroom, pool waterlines, carpet, upholstery and even the oil stains on your garage floor. Have a mess? All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser is your right-hand man.

What can I use it on?

Any water safe surface. Glass, porcelain, ceramic and natural stone tile, grout, agglomerate and stone countertops, cooktops, stainless steel appliances and metal fixtures.

How do I use it?

Spray All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser on a surface and allow to sit for 1 minute*. Gently scrub with a nylon scrub brush or nylon scrub pad, rinse thoroughly with clean water and towel dry. To view the Application and Usage Chart, click here.

*P.S. Always be sure to test All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser in an inconspicuous area!

Why should I use it?

Remember your eco-conscious Aunt? She wouldn’t gift you another generic, off the shelf cleaner chock full of toxic components that pollute our air and water as well as pose health risks to your family. Oceancare’s All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser is a 100% natural, plant-derived, citrus-based alkaline cleaner. Oh, it’s also biodegradable and non-toxic so you know your Aunt’s stoked on that.

Where can I buy it?

At your local Oceancare Dealer or online.

New Colors Bring Home Island Vibes

Enveloped in the warm ocean breeze, toes wiggling in the soft sand, gazing out over the waves to the horizon, the natural elements of Hawaii create a place of serenity. Standing on the shore the eye follows rolling jungle hills and clear skies onto warm sands and vibrant tropical waters. The newest colors and blends in the Oceanside Glasstile collection embody the serenity of Hawaii’s natural landscape and evoke a sense of peace and calm, transforming any space into a little piece of paradise.

“When creating the new colors we wanted to broaden the range of two complimentary spectrums, allowing for softer gradient transitions,” reflects Oceanside Glasstile Designer Cathy Aroz, “The three new colors are the result of playing with hues and shades of popular colors Clear, Bondi, and Truffle.” Looking at these three new additions together, Oceanside Glasstile’s creative team was reminded of the beauty and depths of a tropical paradise and wanted to pay tribute to the spirit of Hawaii by using Hawaiian names Nalu, Kai and Koa for the colors and Puna, Kalani and Mauna to describe three new blends created with these colors.

Nalu is Hawaiian for wave; one of Hawaii’s many seductions, these perfect curls, swirling hues of blue, create the ultimate inspiration for any ocean lover looking to add a piece of the sea to their space. In Hawaiian the word Kai means ocean. The depths and vastness of the sea remind us of the expanse of the world and bring a sense of perspective and calm to everyday life. Koa is a type of tree native to the Hawaiian islands. Its dark wood has been a popular material for centuries; used to build canoes and surfboards, Koa wood is a valuable, timeless resource symbolizing the importance of preserving natural resources so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

These colors were used with our existing palette to form three new color blends. Puna is Hawaiian for fresh water or spring, natural water welling up from the depths to refresh the body and soul. In Hawaiian Kalani signifies Heavens. This blend is sure to transport you to a tropical sanctuary – imagine feeling the expanse of the beautiful sky, its warm sultry breeze and a mind as calm as the lulling sea. The blend Mauna – meaning mountain, highlights the rich color of Koa. The blend of colors is inspired by the highest point in Hawai’i, Mauna Kea – the brilliance of the earth teamed with light kisses of snow and ice create a stunning balance of warms and cools that make the perfect backdrop for any space.

Each blend is a thoughtful culmination of some of Oceanside Glasstile’s most popular colors. Here are the colors and finishes featured in each new blend:

  • Puna: Infinite (Irid, Matte), Platinum (Irid), Nalu (Irid) and Kai (Irid)
  • Kalani: Bondi (Irid), Dove (Irid), Kai (Irid), Silverlight (Irid)
  • Mauna: Koa (Irid), Platinum (Irid), Truffle (Irid)

Nalu, Kai and Koa, Puna, Kalani and Mauna invite you to experience the tranquility of the islands in your own home. Whether used in a pool water line, along shower walls, in the kitchen, a powder room, or entry way, these colors and blends transform any space into a place of serenity and balance. Play with the spirit of Hawaii online with our blend tool and at your nearest showroom. Get Fresh in the New Year with Vibrant Green Hues Inspired by Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year

Burgeoning holiday cheer climaxes with anticipation of a new year, a fresh start and a renewed enthusiasm for life. No color is more appropriate to highlight this sentiment of aspirational growth like the snapping fresh color of natural green. It buds, it moves, it blossoms into nourishing food, protective shade, and living beauty. In 2017 we look forward to possibility and the benefits that abound from nurturing that which grows. To celebrate this symbolism, we highlight images that reflect the emotion featured in Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017 video for their new color Greenery.

“It’s very bold and I think it makes for a great accent color, either as a wall, an accessory, or better yet, as the name suggests, as some actual ‘greenery’. We have a large palette of colors with which to create the perfect backdrop; whether layered with additional color or as a neutral canvas that will highlight your ‘greenery’ of choice.” – Oceanside Glasstile Lead Designer, Cathy Aroz.

Click an image in the gallery below to read its description and learn more about who we are as a company and tickle your imagination with ideas for your next design project. From greenery adorned glass tile walls, to recycled glass, to Taylor’s awesome green hair, at Oceanside Glasstile we invite you to join us in welcoming the new year with open arms, an open mind and a renewed sense of optimism. Oceanside Glasstile + Islandstone Debut New Collection

Friendship, Brotherhood… Kinship.

glass-tile-and-stone-tile-by-the-best-US-companiesCarlsbad, CA – April, 2016 – Collaboration is key in 2016 and true to that trend Oceanside Glasstile and Island Stone launch their new marriage of glass and stone.

Anchored in beach culture and driven by a passion to create beautiful designs, the two companies pair the best of their offerings to create one stunning collection. Using four natural stones – grey sandstone, mint sandstone, silver quartzite and white marble – Oceanside Glasstile adds their molten magic to the union. The result? A beautiful Kinship of stunning stone and jewel like glass that will have you wanderlust for all corners of the great Pacific.

Drawing inspiration from the coastal bluffs and epic point breaks of these kindred spirit’s backyards, Kinship’s Crescent piece has inspired two new patterns. Converge features a gentle cascade of pieces, while Lineage mimics the mild rise and fall of an ocean’s swell.

Fully customizable with the entire Oceanside Glasstile palette, the Converge and Lineage patterns will also feature mint sandstone, grey sandstone, and silver quartzite.

Inspired by the subtle sand dunes of Indonesia’s cascading beaches, the Wedge piece offers an understated dimension with its gentle slopes and rounded edges. With two new fully customizable patterns, Origin and Unison stand in opposition. Where Origin offers a random pattern, Unison offers harmony through a timeless linear placement.

Whatever your design goals may be, the new Origin and Unison patterns are available in the entire Oceanside Glasstile color palette, as well as, white marble, silver quartzite or grey sandstone.

Kinship’s third and final new pattern, Abode, is a nod to the timeless nature of an offset brick. Featuring a 1 1/4” x 4 1/8” mosaic rectangle, Abode is fully customizable with all four new stones and the entire Oceanside Glasstile color palette. Abode captures your eye through free-flowing movement of glass to stone, providing added flexibility to this collections design opportunities.

“Cheers!” It’s the first word Oceanside Glasstile products hear before beginning their journey to up-cycled glory! Each year they melt more than 2 million pounds of post-consumer bottle glass.

The result – a gem-like substance crafted into stunning glass tile. They continuously strive for improvements in energy efficiency, and maintain a closed loop manufacturing process where they re-melt all of their own glass trimmings. Manufacturing innovative products with a sustainable process is an important business value, but . . . that’s just where the fun begins. Encouraged by the leadership of the company, Oceanside Glasstile employees support all kinds of causes both near and far. Embracing social responsibility, they find joy in restoring orphanages, building schools, planting new trees and collaborating with the generation of tomorrow. Both home and commercial designs will get a dose of good vibes when they incorporate this environmentally-aware, socially-responsible product into their work-in-progress.

Oceanside Glasstile Lightens Up This Spring

New Colors Create Infinite Possibilities

Carlsbad, Calif. – Immediate Release – This May Oceanside Glasstile is playing with subtle hues for their Spring Launch 2015. Following up the warm reception from last fall’s launch of “newtrals”, Oceanside Glasstile introduces three new translucent glass colors to their palette – Infinite, Sandbar, and Silverlight – as well as three new blends – Cosmopolitan, Champagne, and Magnetic.

The muted palette – a sandy beach where ocean skies meet the silver horizon – evokes peace and well being. “We’re opening up new design possibilities to create flowing gradients and tonal variations within the ‘lighter is lovelier’ trend,” shares Johnny Marckx, Executive Vice President. Infinitely customizable – relax with some play time on our blend tools. These friendly gems could make an appearance in your next project. Available in three finishes – Iridescent, Non-Iridescent, and Matte – Silverlight, Infinite, and Sandbar are the translucent neutrals you’ve been looking for.

Beach Tile

These same colors also inspired three new blends. Cosmopolitan is a modernists dream with its soft grey palette; while Magnetic plays up the blue undertones in the coolest of greys. Champagne’s effervescent warmth is like its namesake captured in glass. Cathy Aroz, Design + Merchandising Visionary calls the new blends “subtle, sophisticated, and classic” – a perfect addition to your installation.

           Cosmopolitan                                  Magnetic                               Champagne

All Color needs Form, so we included a new (well, old) shape to the Muse mosaic collection. This character is a six-sided chameleon – Hexagon in all its classic glory is finding new interpretations in the modern meets retro movement. Now that it’s back to claim its rightful place at the pattern party, we wanted to put our color into this simple and joyful motif.

Oceanside Glasstile’s Muse collection gains a new pattern with the release of a clean edge 1-5/8” Hexagon. While the Tessera collection’s rustic edge 1 ¾” Hexagon has been a staple of the Oceanside Glasstile catalog, the new Muse Hexagon brings a refreshing take on this versatile shape. Johnny Marckx, Executive Vice President shared the inspiration behind the Muse Hexagon “it brings balanced proportions with a scale that works in a variety of applications”. Available in any color or blend, Oceanside Glasstile’s Muse Hexagon is the perfect touch of refinement for any residential or commercial project.

Atmosphere

Recycling is in the DNA of Oceanside Glasstile.
